Rheomuco, a new standard to analyse the viscoelasticity of sputum

Rheomuco is a benchtop rheometer designed to analyse the viscoelastic properties of sputum.

Useful at any stage of fundamental research, development and for the clinical validation of treatments.

Easy to use, it enables a rheological analysis of a sample in under 15 minutes, and a direct readout of results, requiring no specialist knowledge in rheology.

The sputum analysed can be taken from healthy donors, patients, or in vitro cell cultures. Expectoration is spontaneous for some patients with cystic fibrosis or COPD with hypersecretion, etc.

For others, expectoration must be induced using a standard protocol to acquire the necessary sputum.

One clinical trial conducted with Grenoble Alpes University Hospital has demonstrated that Rheomuco is able to distinguish between patients and objectively measure a treatment’s efficacy.

Easy to use, Rheomuco is a useful addition to current analysis methods, including spirometry (lung function), clearance index (LCI), mucociliary clearance and bacteriology.
